This event was associated with an unusually high tide accompanied by southwest winds, followed by northwest winds (Hickey, 1997).

Receptor and Consequence
Coastal flooding was reported on the west coast of Scotland, where the tide at Calmside (Kirkcolm) was said to have risen 16 yards higher than it had in the 20 years prior to the event. There was great destruction of property in Stranraer; 2 houses were washed away on Clayton Street, one behind Fisher Street, and many more seriously damaged. Roads were flooded and at Clayton Street some of the roadway was lost to the sea (Hickey, 1997).
