Source
This event was associated with a southern gale which caused ‘exceedingly’ high tides in Scotland (Hickey, 1997).
Pathway
No known sources of information.
Receptor and Consequence
The event caused damage to roadways in Grennan, which were left littered with tons of shingle and seaweed. The newly built sea wall was also swept away by the force of the waves. In Dumfries, great numbers of livestock were lost to the flood. Houses were inundated in the low-lying areas of Isle of Whithorn, and the recently erected quay of Drummore was under a foot of water (Hickey, 1997).
