There was abnormally high tide which rose four and a half feet above the usual stream tides, ‘the highest that has been witnessed at Alloa harbour for the last seventeen years’ (Hickey, 1997). There was little or no wind blowing during this event.

Receptor and Consequence
It was reported that the tide was gradually overflowing the pierhead (Hickey, 1997). Mar Hotel kitchen flooded to a depth of 6 inches and the shipbuilding and woodyards were also flooded to the extent of about 60 yards.
