It was reported Ryde was ‘battered’ by 70 mph gale coinciding with 14 feet high tide (Ruocco, 2009).
Pathway
This event left Ryde with badly damaged sea wall (Ruocco, 2009).
Receptor and Consequence
Monktonmead brook running through Ryde overflowed and flooded houses in Westhill road and the Strand, causing 14 properties to be pumped out (Ruocco, 2009). Simmon Street recreation ground was under 3 feet of water at one time. Salterns road, Seaview and Gully road which runs down to Seagrove bay were mentioned as the worst roads affected by flood. Carpenters road, St Helens was also submerged in places.
In Cowes, High Street was submerged under 18 inches deep of water. At East Cowes, traffic was diverted when castle street under 9 inches of water.
