Dawlish railway: time-lapse for repair works following storm damages in February 2014
Earlier this year Network Rail released stunning footage of the two-month long repair works completed on the Dawlish railway line, where around 100 metres of defences were damaged during the storms in February 2014.
The line, which is the only rail link to the remainder of Britain for south Devon and Cornwall, was closed for two months following the damages. The 5th February 2015 marked a one year anniversary for when the line was closed.
Railway lines and roads are important transport infrastructure which are often located along the coast. The damage experienced at Dawlish during the 2013/2014 winter is an extreme example of how severe the impacts of storm surges and waves can be for such infrastructure.
More details of the repair works can be found on the Network Rail website available here.
