According to Zong and Tooley (2003), this event was associated with coastal flooding in Westward Ho!, Bideford, Appledore, Instow, Ilfracombe and the Bristol Channel. Some residential properties were flooded in Westward Ho!, and in Bideford flood water reached a depth of about 1 ft. [0.3 m] (The Times, 1957).
