High winds and spring tides were mentioned as the source of flooding at this event (Akehurst, 2011).
Pathway
Flooding occurred at Cornwall Street, Ryde following sea breached defences leaving a 6 foot long and one foot high gap in the sea wall. Some minor damage also reported to sea defences at Ventnor. At Christchurch, sea defences works damaged in 13 places (Akehurst, 2011).
Receptor and Consequence
This event saw flooding at Ryde where vectis boating and fishing club and Ryde rowing club flooded. Floorboards lifted at Vectis boating and fishing club on Ryde pier. Seas washed over Ryde’s promenade. A tool shed and weighing machine were overturned. Water up to Keyhaven Yacht club and Lymington half quay was underwater. High winds and spring tides also caused more cliff erosion at Milford-on-Sea. About £35,000 worth damage were reported (Akehurst, 2011).
