Pathway
Mountainous waves caused damage to sea defenses and pier at Ventnor (Akehurst, 2011).
Receptor and Consequence
This event was associated with high seas causing flooding at Fairlee Road, Newport, while junction of East Street and High Street, Ventnor was nearly a foot underwater (Akehurst, 2011). At Freshwater Bay waves cleared a bank of shingle from the beach. Rough seas swept over the Needles with the men operating the crane up to their thighs in water.
