Receptor and Consequence
A ‘good deal’ of coastal flooding was experienced in places along the south coast during this event according to Eden (2008). At Lee-on-Solent, gusts reached 91 mph [79 knots]. At Avonmouth, 40 feet sprays caused by 80 mph winds damaged Portishead flooding the sea front and buildings along it. Large waves also caused flooding to many areas at Hinkley Point, including Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare. Severe overtopping also felt in Barry Cardiff and Newport, damaging sea front businesses (Young, 2018).
