A large storm surge as a result of gales combined with moderate wave action caused flooding in several places (Young, 2018; Burrows, 2017).

Receptor and Consequence
An event was recorded by CEH (1999) to have occurred during an unspecified time in early-January 1999 and was associated with coastal flooding in parts of the south coast including Selsey, Hampshire. This event is also documented by Haigh et al. (2015). At Hinkley Point region, Brean caravan park flooded (Young, 2018). Caravan park was also flooded at Chichester along with some streets (Lawrence, 2017). At Penarth, Newport, streets and a few beach houses were flooded (Young, 2018). Street flooding was also reported at Shore Road, Sandbanks (Burrows, 2017). Burrows (2017) also recorded that at Weymouth, Town Bridge was submerged under 3 feet of floodwater and large areas of Commercial Road were flooded and impassable.
