Water’s rising on the east coast – 13th Jan 2017
The centre of the storm is approaching Denmark, and strong northernly winds behind the storm are generating the storm surge in the North. The figure below shows a snapshot of the wind and atmospheric pressure from the excellent Earth website.
Real time water levels can be seen on the National Tidal and Sea Level Facility website. Here is a snap shot showing the rising surge at Whitby, getting close to 1 m, around the first high tide of the day.
